Wats better norton or a free antivirus program?norton

Norton is crap, I keep telling people this. It *DOES* get rid of viruses but slows the computer down as you have found. The newer versions are even worse.

Most people only buy it because it's all the computer stores sell... This is because the computer stores have a contract with Norton to push their product.

Please read this post I made earlier...

Regarding anti virus / anti spy ware programmes, none of them are 100% fool proof. They need to be constantly updated via internet. You must also know that updates will be released by the vendor only after viruses starts infecting the system.

The best way to protect your system is by good browsing habits.

Any anti virus scanner will do the job as long as you keep them up to date with antivirus definitions. I personally would pump for zone alarm which comes with an excellent antivirus and security feature. It has a free version also.
Norton is really good.
Free anti-virus. Corporations use Norton/Mcaffee. It was a few months ago, but Norton figured out that some viruses were going undetected because the hackers built their viruses to go around the firewalls of well known anti-virus programs. AVG-Free FTW!
AVG Anti-Virus or Avast Anti-Virus works really good.

I have all of these (in addition to Norton Internet Security) and they all work very well against viruses and spyware:

1. SUPERAntiSpyware (My personal fave)

2. Ad-Aware SE

3. Spybot Search and Destroy

4. SpywareBlaster (Doesn't scan, but prevents spyware/adware from being installed)

5. Windows Defender

(FIVE ABOVE ARE ALL FREE)

You can get them all at http://www.download.com/

I've tried AVG and it worked very well, but it slowed my computer down, that's why I got rid of it. But maybe it'll work for you. Hope this helps!
